Plagiarism
Plagiarism : According to West’s Encyclopedia of American Law, plagiarism is “the act of appropriating the literary composition of another […]and passing the material off as one's own creation. Plagiarism is theft of another person's writings or ideas.” Professors and academic institutions take plagiarism very seriously. This attitude comes from the deep and abiding respect they have for knowledge and learning, and for the hard work of the researchers that came before them.
When you do your schoolwork, you will be expected to submit work that represents your original work, words, or ideas, informed by valid, scholarly sources. When words or ideas of others are used, you must cite all relevant sources. When the material has been reworded, the citation should be introduced with the material. When exact words or phrases are used, they should have quotation marks in addition to the citation.
When you submit your rough draft and final drafts of your project assignment in your online class, the papers will be submitted to TurnItIn.com and your instructor will receive information regarding the originality of the work submitted. All papers submitted (whether on campus or on-line) as of January 1, 2010, will be submitted through TurnItIn. Please make sure that your work is your own and any information that is taken from another source is properly credited. Click HERE to view the TurnItIn Student Manual.
Different class projects will have different levels of formality . When you work on an informal assignment, it is generally sufficient to make the citation obvious in some way, as it was in the first paragraph above. Submissions that are more formal should adhere to APA format . When in doubt about the formality expected, ask your Instructor.

**** A Reminder About Plagiarism *****
Any violation of your schools' honor code, including plagiarism, may result in failure of the lesson, failure of the course or dismissal from school. Please review your college catalog. Make sure you cite any work that is not your own. Plagiarism is a serious ethical violation. You are introduced to this topic, along with flaming and netiquette, in your orientation class. Your instructors will expect you to be familiar with and adhere to the guidelines regarding submission of any discussion items, assignments or projects
